What The Luxe is a newsletter about the luxury and beauty industry, written by David Klingbeil. This page explains what personal data we hold, why we hold it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
What we collect
Your email address, when you subscribe to the newsletter or ask us to send you a report. That is the only piece of personal information we ask you for.
Your name, only if you choose to give it.
Billing details, if you take a paid subscription. Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
Basic usage data: which pages are visited, and whether emails we send are opened or clicked. This is aggregate reporting that tells us which issues were useful. It is not used to build a profile of you.
Why we hold it, and on what basis
We use your email address to send you the newsletter and any report you asked for. The legal basis is your consent, given when you submitted your address. You can withdraw it at any time, and every email we send carries a one click unsubscribe link.
Where you have a paid subscription, we process your data to perform that contract.
Usage data is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding whether the newsletter is worth reading.
Who else handles your data
We use a small number of service providers, each of which acts on our instructions:
- Ghost, which hosts this site, holds the subscriber list and delivers the newsletter.
- Kit (formerly ConvertKit), which delivers reports and other automated emails.
- Stripe, which processes payments for paid subscriptions.
- Google, where our reports are hosted as slide decks. Opening a report opens a Google document.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
These providers are based in the United States, so your data is transferred outside the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. Those transfers rely on the standard contractual clauses each provider offers.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address for as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal record so that we do not email you again by mistake. Ask us to delete you entirely and we will.
Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can ask us to give you a copy of the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or object to our using it. You can also complain to your national data protection authority.
To exercise any of these, email info@what-the-luxe.com. We will respond within one month.
Cookies
This site sets cookies that are needed for it to work, including keeping you signed in if you have an account, and it measures page views. We do not run advertising cookies and we do not use third party tracking pixels for advertising.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that affects you, we will say so in the newsletter rather than quietly updating the date at the top.
